My favorite classroom experience is still face to face, but I am beginning to develop an appreciation for the hybrid classes. In the classroom, the dynamic experience with the instructor and the other students makes for a more interesting learning experience because I am able to listen to the other student's point of view and thoughts and questions about the subject we are studying. However, the hybrid classes seem to work well when we have met face to face and then continue the conversation and exploration of material on line.
Some of my instructors have used technology in the classroom, and oftena lot of time was used trying to get the technology to function correctly. I am not sure if it was a problem with the equipment or the user, but the waste of time disappointed me. I would suggest that the instructors practice with the technology independently before they use it in the classroom, so everything works smoothly.
I agree that the traditional classroom is the most invigorating, although there is something to be said for being at home, wrapped in a
ReplyDeletequilt with my slippers on, communicating with my classmates!! I've had only one good experience of a totally on-line class.
This particular class is perfect as a hybrid as we are learning about technology and need to be independent in order to put into practice
the skills being developed. We have a week to practice, right!!!
Hi Joan, I agree that hybrid is the perfect format for this class. Setting out to do a project on my own to practice new skills forces me to set aside my trepidation and confront the challenge. Although there is increased stress at the onset, finding my way toward the finished product is a great learning experience for me.
ReplyDeleteThere is multilevel learning in this class, not only must we intellectually grasp concepts about the culture of the computer, we must also understand how the computer works mechanically. As we learn to think critically about the content in websites, we also are learning how to access the websites. As we learn to download programs and explore OpenOffice and the others, we learn there is a navigational standard within the different programs.
As for me, I appreciate the week to practice. I need to practice a new skill multiple times to really make it mine. ~Nadine
